Hospital confirms dengue killed Konaje patient

The case of the person from Assaigoli, Konaje, who died due to suspected dengue on Wednesday, has been handed over to B.V. Rajesh, Disease Surveillance Officer.
Ratnakar, Taluk Health Officer, Mangalore said the patient's NS1 test was positive, but the Elisa test was negative. He said the case ?almost looks like dengue?, adding the patient visited her house in Karwar, where there are dengue cases.

Of the five deaths, two dengue cases were confirmed through Elisa and three others, tested with NS, were ?attributed to dengue but not confirmed?.

Dengue numbers up, as rain continues to lash Bangalore (Karnataka)
Despite media reports about the rise in dengue cases in Bangalore, doctors say there is no need to panic. BBMP claims the surveillance has been stepped up and no dengue deaths reported so far in the city this year.

According to the BBMP there have been 439 dengue cases reported in the city this year.
Despite media reports about dengue deaths, the BBMP says there have been no mortalities. For example, a recent media report claimed that one person died due to dengue at M S Ramaiah Hospital. BBMP?s Nodal Officer for Mosquito Control, Dr K Sangamithra says that while the news of the death is true, the victim was not from Bangalore and only happened to be admitted in a hospital within BBMP limits. Therefore, she says, the case will pertain to the city/district of origin of the victim.

For example, Dr S Rajanna, Resident Medical Officer, Bowring Hospital, says the hospital has seen at least
three dengue deaths this year.
At St Martha?s Hospital, the Associate Medical Superintendent says there have been
three dengue deaths this year that took place in May.
The office of the Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital says they have had
one dengue death in the first week of July.
Citizen Matters was unable to independently verify whether each of these victims were from outside BBMP limits and if they only happened to be admitted in a city hospital for treatment.
Also, given that many hospitals do not share information on dengue cases with the BBMP, it is likely that even if dengue deaths have occurred, they would have gone unreported.

19-year-old youth succumbs to suspected dengue

A 19-year-old youth died of dengue-like fever at a private hospital here on Sunday.
Vijay Kumar, a resident of Bangalore north, had been ill for over 10 days. After developing fever and breathing difficulty, Vijay was first taken to a clinic near his home in Sanjay Nagar.
He was living with his parents Chandru and Shobha.

Cuttack/Bhubaneswar, July 21: Cuttack Municipal Corporation is struggling to contain dengue outbreak as fresh cases continue to be reported from different parts of the city, while in Bhubaneswar the civic body has intensified fogging from this evening.
After Rausapatna and Haripur, dengue scare now looms large over Nima Sahi, Pithapur, Rajabagicha, Mangalabag and Purighat areas.
So far out of 66 positive cases reported in Odisha, Cuttack?s count is 46. Yesterday, 11 persons were tested for dengue in Cuttack.

77 patients test positive for dengue in SCB Medical Colleges, Cuttack
Bhubaneswar: Dengue spreading tentacles to more areas in Odisha as only in Cuttack city out of 399 blood serum tested by Elisa based tests ( NS1 & IgM) at Microbiology Deptt of SCB Medical Colleges, Cuttack (Dengue Sentinel Site Lab), 77 have been detected positive for dengue. All most all the cases are concentrated in 4 wards situated in contiguous area.
