Lucknow: Struggling to gather correct number of dengue affected patients in the state, Uttar Pradesh government has started the process of including dengue in the list of notifiable diseases. The state is acting on orders issued by Union health ministry on June 9. Principal secretary health and family welfare Arun Sinha convened a meeting to finalise the notification on Friday evening. Private practitioners and hospitals across the state will now have to report every case of mosquito-borne infectious dengue, malaria and kala azar to the local public health machinery so that prevention and containment measures may be initiated immediately to check its spread and prevent an outbreak.

Lakshmi Bai Patel, a resident of Narsinghpur, undergoing treatment at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, succumbed to the disease late on Friday night.

Bihar youth fifth victim of dengue in city

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) An 18-year-old youth today died due to dengue at a private hospital in south Delhi, taking the number of fatalities from the vector-borne disease in the national capital to five.

The victim, Asad Iqbal, a native of Bihar succumbed to the deadly disease this morning at Apollo Hospital in Sarita Vihar. He was living in the city to pursue his higher education.

Sources at the hospital said, he died at around 7 AM.

Fever death toll on rise

Chennai: Deaths due to viral fever among children in Tiruvallur continue unabated with a 15-year-old having succumbed on Saturday night. Srinivasan from Podaturpet (64 km from district HQ of Tiruvallur) who had undergone treatment in three different hospitals, including Chennai's Madras Medical College, succumbed at MMC.
It was alleged that there was no doctor at the hospital and reports of the tests conducted on the child were not shared with his parents or relatives. It was also alleged that the child succumbed to dengue and was not treated properly.
However, District Collector, E. Sundarvalli, stated otherwise. "The boy was referred to the Government Hospital in Podaturpet from a PHC. As no progress was recorded, he was shifted to MMC where he succumbed.

While speaking to REPORTERS, she said, "The death of four-year-old, Lavanya Naik from Sada is not confirmed to be due to dengue as yet. Naik was shifted to Goa Medical College and hospital at Bambolim from a private hospital two days prior to her death.

Though as many as 23 deaths have so far been reported from Dum Dum, Baranagar, Salt Lake, Sreerampore, areas bordering Kolkata, the twin deaths in the city created a dengue scare among the KMC health department officials. Though the civic bosses on Monday dismissed the possibility of a dengue connection in the siblings' death, a section of the civic health department officials conceded that dengue could be the prime cause of the deaths as the area where the siblings lived is known as the dengue-prone zone in the civic body's map.

BELAGAVI: A six-year-old girl from Bailhongal, who was suspected to be suffering from dengue, died late on Monday night. This is the second death due to dengue in the district in the past two days. Alviya Ashfaq Nesaragi of Basava Nagar in Bailhongal died at a private hospital in Dharwad. She was down with high fever for the past few days and was treated at a private hospital at Bailhongal before being shifted to Dharwad for further treatment.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskartoday said the dengue situation in the State was well under control. A resident of Kharar is suspected to have died due to dengue in Fortis Hospital here today. However, confirmation, or otherwise, of dengue will only be available after two days when the laboratory test report is received from Delhi.
Civil Surgeon Ranjit Kaur Guru said Kamaldeep Goyal (34) had been suffering from fever for the past about five days. He was brought to Fortis yesterday when his condition deteriorated.
She said the patient did not have any fever when he was brought to the hospital. His platelet count had lowered and was recorded at 32,000. She said samples for dengue tests had been sent to Delhi and the report would be available in about two days.

UP govt organises dengue awareness rally
Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today organised a dengue awareness rally in the state capital to counter the growing menace of the diseases spreading across the state.
In Lucknow, though unofficial report claimed that around 25 people have died due to dengue or other diseases related to fever. But officials have confirmed only two deaths so far.
Officials said 12 new cases of dengue were reported today, taking city's tally to 155.

A 55-year-old woman is suspected to have died of dengue in Panchkula on Friday night, taking the dengue death toll in the tricity to five, which includes two from Mohali, two from Chandigarh and one from Panchkula.
The total number of confirmed cases in the tricity so far is 184. Mohali has recorded 146, the highest number of dengue cases in the tricity, followed by Chandigarh, which has reported 23 confirmed cases so far. Panchkula has recorded 15 cases of dengue till now.
Sources said Neena Puri, a resident of Sector 9, Panchkula, was admitted to a private hospital in Panchkula on September 1, and died last night.
