New Delhi: Four people have died of swine flu in New Delhi and 106 fresh cases were reported--the highest in the country on Friday, a health official said.

The deaths take the national toll to 566.

Of the four deaths, two each were in Safdarjung Hospital and the Lady Hardinge Medical College an Hospital. In Safdarjung Hospital - a 36-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man succumbed to the pandemic virus. With these deaths, the toll in the capital has reached 22.


"We have reported 106 fresh cases Friday, including 68 children," a senior Delhi health ministry official told IANS.

A swine flu death was reported from Himachal Pradesh where an eight-year-old boy died in a government hospital. This was the second death in the state due to the H1N1 virus.


"A boy who was suffering from swine flu and was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (Sector 32) died Thursday," chief medical officer Ashok Tagra told IANS.


Also during the day, 243 fresh cases were reported, including 106 from Delhi. While Haryana reported 43 new cases, 23 cases were from Uttar Pradesh.


With these cases, Delhi has reported 4,406 cases of influenza A (H1N1) - highest among states so far. Maharashtra follows close behind with 3,954 cases, Tamil Nadu is at number three position with 1,846 cases.

Nine swine flu deaths were reported on Sunday, including four from Rajasthan, the toll due to influenza A (H1N1) virus in India to 627, health authorities said here.

Also, 144 new cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of people affected with the contagious flu to 20,165.

With the four deaths, the toll in Rajasthan has gone up to 67. Two deaths were reported from Gujarat, taking the number of fatalities due to Influenza A (H1N1) virus in the state to 49.

Two deaths were also reported from Maharastra Sunday taking the toll in the state to 232.

One death was also reported from the national capital, taking the total toll here to 30.

The number of people affected with the virus in Delhi is now the highest in the country at 5,826 as per Saturday evening.

"One death was reported today (Friday). A 25-year-old male was brought dead to the Ambedkar Hospital," Anjana Prakash, Delhi's assistant nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS.

One death was also reported from the union territory of Chandigarh Saturday.

"Till date, samples from 91,192 people have been tested for Influenza A (H1N1) in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country and 21.5 percent of them have been found positive," said a statement issued here.

New cases were also reported from Rajasthan (20), Kerala (6), Haryana (14), Uttar Pradesh (six), Uttarakhand (three), Gujarat (two), Pondicherry (one) and Chhattisgarh(one).

Five more H1N1 patients died in Delhi, taking the swine flu toll in the country to 632, health authorities said Monday.

Though Delhi government authorities added only four deaths to their cumulative death figure (34), they said another person also died at Guru Teg Bahadur hospital late Sunday night. The victim was from Uttar Pradesh.


'The patient was not a resident of Delhi and we are not including the death in the cumulative total of Delhi,' Anjana Prakash, the state's assistant nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS.


Of the four deaths, a nine-month infant died in St Stephens Hospital and a 52-year-old man breathed his last at the Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, she said.


'Two suspected swine deaths were reported from the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital last week and were confirmed Monday. So, the four swine flu deaths takes the total to 34,' she added.


Delhi reported 198 fresh swine flu cases Monday. 'The cumulative swine flu cases in Delhi now stands at 6,171,' she said.


Though, there were no reports of fresh deaths from any other state, the health ministry said that the country reported 315 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1). Apart from Delhi, Haryana reported 39 new cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh (30 new cases).


'All the 315 cases reported during the day, four are having history of foreign travel and rest are indigenous cases,' a health ministry official said.


Over 20,000 people have been affected by the disease so far in India but majority of them have been cured.

More than 20 thousand cases of influenza A (H1N1) in India

09 of December 2009, 05:17 New Delhi, Dec 9 (Prensa Latina) amounted to 20 thousand 313 the number of people who have contracted influenza A (H1N1) in India since the first case was detected last May, said today an official source.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, so far 643 people have died as a result of the epidemic.

The outbreak has increased in recent days, with the arrival of winter.

Last night, for example, were reported across the country five deaths and 366 new cases, mostly in Delhi, where many schools temporarily suspended classes.

In the territory where is located the capital of India where most patients have been confirmed so far, with five thousand 677, although the death toll is relatively low (26).

Maharashtra, for its part, has fewer cases of infected people than Delhi, but reported 233 deaths, the highest number among all states.

According to the latest report from the World Health Organization, influenza caused by influenza A (H1N1) has caused eight thousand 768 deaths worldwide since the epidemic was first detected last April.
