Indapur man dies of swine flu in Pune

PUNE: A 35-year-old man from Indapur taluka in Pune district succumbed to swine flu on Wednesday, making it the first death from the infection in the state and second in the country this year. A 42-year-old woman from Uttam Nagar in New Delhi died of the virus on Tuesday.

So far, Maharashtra has reported five swine flu cases and one death since the beginning of this year. Two of the cases were reported from the municipal limits of Nagpur city, two from within the municipal limits of Pune and another from Pimpri Chinchwad.

A 51-year-old woman, resident of Wanowrie, succumbed to the contagion, taking city's H1N1 death toll to 2,in the short span of 10 days so far this year. Three people have so far been found infected with the virus. Of them, two have died.

The condition of another patient is critical.

Pune: The swine flu virus claimed another life in Pune city on Friday. A 28-year-old resident of Indapur taluka succumbed to the infection at a private hospital here, taking the city's H1N1 death toll to three so far this year.

The victim, Annaso Kalyan Yadav, had developed flu-like symptoms on December 8. He had a cold, fever and mild breathlessness, which increased progressively.

Initially, Yadav sought medical care at a private hospital in Baramati on December 9. However, his condition did not improve and he was moved to KEM hospital in Pune on December 11 for tertiary care.

Yadav's condition worsened and he was put on ventilator support on December 28. His condition continued to be critical for the next 15 days.

Aurangabad: A 42-year-old man died of Swine Flu at a government hospital here, officials said today.


The victim identified as Shabbir Hussain Mustafa, a resident of Hilal colony in the city, was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) yesterday in a critical condition.

Swine flu infects 29; kills 6 in state in Jan

PUNE: Swine flu has infected 29 people in Maharashtra - mainly in Pune, Nagpur and Nashik - in the last 22 days. Of them, six have succumbed to the contagion, three each in Pune and Nagpur.

The condition of two swine flu patients, meanwhile, is critical and they have been put on ventilator support at hospitals in Pune. Both are residents of Pimpri Chinchwad. On Thursday, a 55-year-old man, a resident of Tapkirnagar in Pimpri Chinchwad, was put on ventilator support at a private hospital here.

A total of 29,790 people exhibiting influenza-like illness have so far been screened across the state. Of them, 646 people, who were suspected to have contracted the infection, were administered Tamiflu tablets as a precautionary measure.

Swine flu haunts Maharashtra again, kills nine in January

Maharashtra has witnessed a sudden spurt in swine flu in January this year, with nine people reported dead as a result of the influenza H1N1 virus. The virus has showed resurgence in various parts of the country.

On Friday, the Maharashtra state health department recorded 35 cases and nine deaths because of the virus, putting the mortality rate of the infection at 25% in January 2015.

Pune: The condition of two more swine flu patients became critical on Friday. They were put on ventilator support at different hospitals, taking the number of patients down with swine flu to four in Pune city. As many as 11 people have tested positive for swine flu since the beginning of the year. Of them, three have succumbed to the contagion.

Ahmednagar woman dies of swine flu and dengue

Pune: A 33-year-old woman succumbed to swine flu and dengue co-infection at a private hospital on Saturday, taking the city's H1N1 death toll to four this year.

The victim, Chandrakala Dada Dalvi, a resident of Ahmednagar district, developed influenza-like symptoms on January 19. She had fever with chills, cough, weakness and severe breathlessness and was initially treated at a private hospital in Ahmednagar. Her condition did not improve. She was subsequently moved to KEM hospital in Pune for tertiary care treatment on January 22.

"She tested positive for swine flu as well as dengue antibody IgM test and was put on a ventilator.

State health authorities step up surveillance over swine flu deaths

With 13 swine flu deaths in Maharashtra in January this year, state health authorities have stepped up surveillance, identified a core team of experts and are preparing to ensure that ventilators are functional within the next two days.
A high-level meeting chaired by Director of Health Dr Satish Pawar on Sunday issued guidelines to district health officers and other officials to maintain strict vigilance.
?There are more than 37 patients admitted to various hospitals across the state and a majority of deaths are from Nagpur (eight), Pune (four) and Aurangabad (one).

By this time, she had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome. Her condition worsened and she was put on ventilator support. Harshali suffered cardiac arrest around 3am on Tuesday and, despite all efforts, could not be revived. Harshali had suffered from asthma and convulsive disorder till the age of five, but had completely recovered with comprehensive treatment.[/h]

12-year-old dies of swine flu, NIV officials advise vaccination as preventive measure

A 12-year-old girl from Satara died of swine flu (H1N1 virus) at Pune?s KEM hospital. This is the fifth death due to swine flu this year. Across Maharashtra, there have been a total of 42 cases of swine flu and 14 deaths.
Twelve-year old Harshali Kamble from Tasgaon taluka of Satara had cough and fever since January 16 and started getting breathless on January 20. Harshali also suffered from asthma and had been using a hearing aid since the age of seven.

Spike in swine flu cases, 11 die in Jan alone

NAGPUR: There have been 11 deaths caused by swine flu in Nagpur district in January alone, as per the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). These are patients who belonged to the city. With private hospitals treating patients from outside Nagpur, the number of swine flu fatalities in city would be higher.

The sudden spike in the number of swine flu cases has concerned the doctors and the civic authorities. On Tuesday morning, mayor Pravin Datke even called a meeting to discuss the issue. Doctors have also expressed concern about the changing pattern of infection that is affecting seemingly healthy individuals rather than those with weak immunity.

Two more die of swine flu

Pune: Two men, one from Ahmednagar while another from Pimple Gurav, succumbed to swine flu taking the H1N1 death toll in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to seven this year so far.

In first H1N1 casualty in Pimpri Chinchwad, Rajendra Malappa Santar (41) from Pimple Gurav developed influenza like symptoms, including cough, cold and fever, on January 17. Initially, he sought medical treatment at a neighbourhood clinic. However, when his condition deteriorated, he sought help of another doctor who referred him to D Y Patil Medical College and Hospital on January 21. Santar tested positive for swine flu on January 22.

Bhopal woman dies of swine flu in Pune

PUNE: A 48-year-old woman from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh succumbed to swine flu at a private hospital in Pune, taking the H1N1 death toll in the city to seven and 21 across the state this year, so far.

The virus transmission across the state showed marked increase since the beginning of the new year. The virus has infected 74 people and claimed 21 lives in Maharashtra, mainly in Nagpur, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad in January.

Woman from Palghar dies of H1N1 in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The death of Palghar resident Matilda Almeida, of swine flu at Andheri's Holy Spirit Hospital on Tuesday, has spread panic in the area as residents alleged that Palghar Municipal Corporation's health department was almost non-functional with no medical officer. Another woman from Nala Sopara, part of the newly formed Palghar district, is being treated for the disease in Jaslok Hospital and believed to be critical.

MUMBAI: After a lull of over 15 months, the dreaded swine flu virus has returned to the city. A 65-year-old Mulund resident is battling for life. He is among four people to test positive for the virus in the last few days. A nine-year-old girl from Santacruz is among the patients. The virus, which created a global pandemic in 2009, has swept across states, claiming nearly 200 lives in the country since January.

The high fatality rate of the virus in the state has health officials on edge. Among 96 patients in Maharashtra, as many as 23 have succumbed to the virus.

[h=1]Pune woman dies of swine flu, Maharashtra toll rises to 22[/h] The spectre of pandemic swine flu continues to haunt Maharashtra after Pune registered yet another death when a 43-year-old woman from Ambegaon Taluk succumbed to the lethal H1N1 virus on Wednesday.
Bharati Jadhav, who developed an influenza-like fever in late January, died while undergoing treatment at the city?s Ruby Hall Clinic, said Pune Municipal Corporation officials.
According to doctors, Ms. Jadhav might have been saved had she not delayed treatment by almost five days.
The death makes her the eighth victim in city and takes the death toll in Maharashtra to 22.

The BMC said 10 Mumbaikars, including two children, have tested positive for the virus within five days of this month.
MUMBAI: Two diabetic women from Kharghar and Badlapur died of swine flu in different city hospitals on Thursday, bringing the panic closer home and taking the state's death toll this year to 27.

The death of a 60-year-old woman from Badlapur, who apparently contracted the infection from her granddaughter, has taken Kasturba Hospital doctors by surprise. She was on BiPap machine, a non-invasive ventilator, and doing better than the other swine flu patients in the hospital's isolation facility. Her sugar levels too were under control. "She deteriorated rapidly and succumbed in the morning. She was not that critical," said a doctor.
