Latur - Two women died of swine flu suspected in one day. Rupali Anil Dixit (30, resident. Belakunda Tal. Ausa) and Sandhya sirasata (24, resident. Bori, Tal. Latur) the names of the dead are women.

While Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has already asked the top health officials of the state to launch an action plan to keep a tab on the number of swine flu deaths in the city, Mumbai witnessed its third death in a matter of two months.
A 35-year-old female from Borivali was the third Mumbaikar to succumb to the deadly virus on March 3. The woman was admitted to Karuna Hospital in Borivali at first and was later shifted to Kasturaba Hospital in south Mumbai on February 27 after testing positive for the disease.
Doctors confirmed that she succumbed to sepsis with bilateral pnemonities along with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

Besides, 134 new cases of the disease were detected today, taking the count of the affected people to 2,139, a health department official said in Mumbai.

"Out of the total of 452 patients currently in hospitals, 40 are in a serious condition and have been kept on a ventilator," the official said.
The state government had provided ventilators, and cardiac monitors, etc., alongwith facilities like isolation wards and intensive care units at hospitals, he said.

NAGPUR: Even as the death toll of swine flu patients in Nagpur division touched 74, the NMC issued an appeal to citizens to avoid playing Holi or gathering in large numbers. On Thursday, six patients with the disease reportedly succumbed to the disease. Meanwhile, 17 patients from the region tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Two more swine flu deaths in city
People with flu symptoms at Rajawadi Hospital
Two senior citizens were killed in the last 36 hours by the deadly H1N1 virus taking the city death toll to 5 this year. The deceased - a 67-year-old woman from Girgaum and 76-year-old man from Masjid Bunder - succumbed to the deadly disease after multi organ failure.

According to BMC officials, the woman was a breast cancer patient and was undergoing chemotherapy. She was admitted to the Wockhardt Hospital in Bombay Central after she developed fever and cold on February 26. However, her condition began to deteriorate leading to multi organ failure.

The man, who was a diabetes patient, was first admitted to Noor Hospital in Byculla with fever and cold.

Two Kandivli residents died of swine flu on Saturday, taking the city swine flu death toll to 23. In its health report, the BMC confirmed that both patients died of respiratory failure and had tested positive for H1N1 virus.

Dr Mangala Gomare, epidemiology cell in-charge in BMC said: "One patient was a 45-year-old woman who was admitted at Ambedkar Hospital and later transferred to BMC's Nair Hospital. She had hypertension, diabetes and thyroid problems."

Dr Gomare added that the other deceased was a 47-year-old woman who was also admitted at Ambedkar Hospital, last week. "She too was diabetic and was on steroid therapy for Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia," said Dr Gomare.

10 die of swine flu in a day in Maha, toll reaches 211

Ten people died of swine flu in Maharashtra today, taking the death toll due to H1N1 viral infection to 211.

"Ten deaths were reported today. (Out of them) four were from Pune, two from Mumbai, and one each from Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Latur and Washim districts," a public health official said.

Till date, there have been 2501 cases in the state and as many as 37 people infected by the H1N1 virus are on ventilator, the official said.

?The infection is well under control in Pune, even as swine flu cases rise alarmingly in Nashik and Mumbai. Almost 80 per cent of those infected have been successfully treated so far in Pune?s hospitals,? informed S.T. Pardeshi, Chief Medical Officer, PMC, noting that almost half the district?s death toll were patients who had come to the city to undergo treatment.

AURANGABAD: Condition of two more patients suffering from swine flu turned serious at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), while three succumbed to death in the past three days taking the toll up to 13 since January this year.

The H1N1 death toll mounted to 13 after the GMCH recorded three deaths - one woman and two men, in the past three days. Of this, 10 deaths were reported at the GMCH and 3 were reported from a private hospital in the city.

Resident of Lotakaranja area in the city, Shahnaaj Shameem Shaikh (45), succumbed to the virus on Friday, while Keshav Aade (35), a resident of Jalna, died on Saturday and Lahu Dashrath Jadhav (45), hailing from Paithan taluka, died on Saturday.

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra Government to file an affidavit on the measures it has taken to tackle swine flu cases in the state.

A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Mohit Shah asked the Government to file the affidavit within four weeks while considering a public interest litigation on the increase in cases of swine flu in Maharashtra and sought a direction to the state to take preventive measures.

Swine flu claims nine lives in 48 hours

PUNE: Swine flu claimed seven lives in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad on Tuesday, taking the total number of casualties to 63 this year. Two more patients had succumbed to the infection on Monday.

Of the seven people who died on Tuesday, four were from Pimpri Chinchwad and the rest from Pune city. In almost all the cases, the patients either had underlying medical conditions or they delayed seeking treatment.

Mumbai: Pregnant woman dies of swine flu infection

A 30-year-old pregnant woman in Mumbai is the latest victim of swine flu reported in the city. The victim was battling pulmonary tuberculosis while she contracted the H1N1 infection, health officials said.

The Virar resident was seven months pregnant and died on Sunday.
