RAWALPINDI:

Contrary to the claims of the district health department, the battle to control measles is far from over in Rawalpindi as 31 new cases were reported on Saturday.

Fresh cases have taken the tally to 623 in the entire district with the majority reported in Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi (HFH) which has treated 330 patients of the disease to-date.

Talking to The Express Tribune, HFH spokesperson Dr Javed Hayat held parents responsible, saying they ignore doctors? advice regarding the vaccination procedures. ?Most of the children hit by the disease are either not properly vaccinated or yet to complete the inoculation course,? he complained. He said it is very easy to blame the health department or hospitals? administration for the disease, but parents must also do their part if the disease is to be completely eradicated...

Tuesday, June 04, 2013 - Lahore?Measles on Monday claimed two more lives, bringing the number of deaths to 134 in the province.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa health department does not seem to be taking adequate measures to control the recent outbreak of measles in the province. In fact, the department does not even have a record of deaths which resulted from the disease.

By local estimates, measles killed 79 children in the last five months in Peshawar alone. In stark contrast, the department claims only seven such deaths occurred in K-P...

LAHORE, MULTAN :-Two more children died of measles in different localities in the province on Tuesday.

Eight-month-old Arman was being treated in Children Hospital Lahore while Momina was under treatment in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Both of them were referred to hospitals for better treatment but unluckily they could not survive.

Arman hailed from Gujranwala while Momina was resident of Lahore.

Three children died on Friday from measles at Allied Hospital.

They were identified as Saddam Husain of Chiniot, Hasnain Raza of Chak 219-RB, Faisalabad; and Kishwar from Mandi Shah Jeewna in Jhang.

Medical Superintendent Dr Rashid Maqbool said that 17 children were being currently treated at the measles ward. Eight others had been shifted to the intensive care unit since Thursday...

Measles outbreak: ?CM, health minister to be responsible for deaths?

LAHORE:
Even though Chief Minster Shahbaz Sharif has vowed to deal with the measles outbreak ?on war footing?, the Lahore High Court isn?t satisfied.

On Tuesday ? when the number of deaths from measles rose to 149 ? Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan remarked that the court would hold the chief minister and the health minister responsible for any more deaths caused by the highly infectious viral illness.

Justice Mahmood also rejected the report submitted by the Health director general (DG) about the steps taken by the government to control the outbreak. The DG was told to re-submit the report by June 13.

The director general had told the court that the government was vaccinating children, as a result of which the number of deaths had been reduced. Justice Mahmood was not convinced and noted that the report was ?customary?. Two or three children die every day of measles, remarked the judge, Delaying tactics won?t be of any use. He asked the DG to take concrete steps to control the epidemic.

LAHORE - T­wo more kids died of measles on Wednesday a day after the Lahore High Court warned to hold responsible the Punjab chief minister and health minister for measles death. The deaths brought the toll to 153 in the province.

One measles patient lost his life at Bahawalnagar while another died in Bahawalpur.

As many as 208 measles patients were admitted to different hospitals in the province including 39 in Lahore. So far 17254 measles cases have been reported from across the province including 5088 in Lahore.

Two new cases of measles got registered at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Saturday, showing that the infection is still hitting population in the district.

Data collected by ?The News? revealed that the three teaching hospitals received over 750 cases of measles so far of which as many 15 died of measles and co-morbidities. From January 1, 2013 to date, Holy Family Hospital has admitted as many as 405 and received over 160 patients with measles at its OPD, while Benazir Bhutto Hospital received over 250 patients while District Headquarters Hospital managed nearly 100 patients of measles on outdoor basis.,,

LAHORE: The health services director general claimed on Tuesday that no measles-related death had occurred in the provincial metropolis in 15 days.

Director General Tanvir Ahmad told the court that over 10 million children were being administered measles vaccine in the ongoing anti-measles campaign.

The DG had appeared before the court of Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan in a petition against continuous deaths due to measles and the failure of the government functionaries to control the outbreak.

Advocate Azhar Siddique, the petitioner, rejected Ahmad?s account. He told the court that the deaths due to measles had been reported by the media. He said the Health Department was misleading the court...

Another life lost to measles

LAHORE - One more measles patient breathed her last at a hospital in Faisalabad on Friday, taking the death toll till today to 181 including 84 in Lahore.

Eisha, 9, lost her life at THQ Hospital Satiana, Faisalabad. As many as 159 measles patients were brought to different hospitals in the province including 30 in Lahore. So far 20,120 measles cases have been reported from across the province including 5,548 in Lahore.

Meanwhile, Punjab Health Department has extended ongoing anti-measles vaccination campaign to another six districts. Now 16 million children of six months to ten years of age would be vaccinated in 18 districts...
