Dengue update: Another two cases reported in Karachi

KARACHI: A total of 107 dengue cases have been reported since January of this year. Out of these, 105 tested positive and two tested negative according to the 29th weekly report compiled by the Dengue Surveillance Cell. All of these patients were from Karachi and so far no cases have emerged from any other part of Sindh...

Dengue: 21 admitted to hospitals

KARACHI: At least 21 patients suffering from dengue fever have been admitted to the hospitals within a period of one week, Sindh Health Department's Dengue Surveillance Cell revealed.

A total of 126 dengue cases have been reported since January of this year. The data is collected from hospitals registered with the government and update the concerned authorities on the matter regularly.

Another person was tested positive for dengue on Monday, taking the total number of afflicted patients up to 143 in the city as the mosquito-borne disease continues to haunt people. One person was also diagnosed for the dengue hemorrhagic fever on Sunday, and interestingly all the 143 had been reported from Karachi, the Dengue Survelliance Cell Sindh (DSCD) said. According to a daily report by DSCD, three patients have been admitted at different hospitals for treatment, including the person diagnosed on Sunday. T he report said some 145 patients were brought at hospitals on suspicion of having the fever and of them, only two were tested negative.

Punjab: 1,025 suspected dengue cases

LAHORE: Over 1,025 suspected cases of the dengue virus have been reported in Punjab. According to the provincial health department 805 of these cases have been reported in Lahore.

220 suspected dengue cases have been reported in other parts of Punjab which include 78 old cases.
The provincial health department states that nine cases in the province have been confirmed, six of them in Lahore and one each in Sheikhupura, Muzaffargarh and Bahwalpur.

At least 164 cases of dengue reported in Karachi this year

KARACHI: At least 165 cases of Dengue have been reported in Sindh so far this year and 164 of these are from Karachi.

This was stated by the Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh, on Friday.

He stressed that fostering the required awareness among the people is essential and so is the timely diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

The Commissioner said that the rainy season appears to be conducive for the growth of Dengue virus and that during this period more cases come to the fore.

More diagnosed: Dengue count crosses 100

LAHORE:
The official dengue patient count in the Punjab became 118 on Saturday as 18 more people tested positive for the disease.
Dr Jafar Ilyas, the vector borne diseases additional director general, told The Express Tribune the number of dengue patients had reached 118 in Punjab. He said most of the reported patients were from Lahore. He said none of the patients was in a serious condition.
?Out of the 118 patients 26 are currently admitted in public hospitals. The rest have been discharged after they recovered,? he said.

LAHORE, Nov 2: A 20-year-old girl from Mian Channu reportedly died of dengue fever at Jinnah Hospital on Wednesday.

She is said to be the first victim of dengue who died of the virus in the provincial capital during the ongoing season of the epidemic.

Urooj Fatima was a suspected dengue patient in the initial assessment due to constant rising fever, critically low platelet counts, and red rashes on different parts of her body, a consultant of the hospital told this reporter requesting anonymity.

15 new dengue cases reported in City

KARACHI - Provincial Dengue Surveillance Cell of Sindh Health Department on Friday reported that a total of 15 more new cases of dengue fever have been registered in the metropolis during the last 24 hours. As per the report, the said nine new cases of dengue fever have taken the total numbers to 430 during the ongoing year. Out of the total cases, 427 were found positive with the virus.

Dengue fever: Two sisters exhibiting dengue symptoms die

Two sisters exhibiting symptoms of dengue died in Haripur, health officials said on Tuesday. However no conclusions can be drawn until the National Institute of Health (NIH) finishes testing the blood samples sent to them, officials said.
Eight-year-old Yasmin Bibi was admitted to the Women and Children Hospital (WCH) three days back suffering from high fever and vomiting. Dr Nasir Khan, the child specialist on duty, ordered tests that failed to determine the cause of the fever.
World Health Organisation (WHO) officials in Haripur also collected Yasmin?s blood samples and sent them to the NIH in Islamabad.
When Yasmin?s condition worsened on the same day, she was referred to Ayub Medical College in Abbottabad, where she died. Her family said she was bleeding from her nose and mouth at the time of death.
The next morning, her four-year-old sister Anila was brought to the WCH exhibiting the same symptoms. She was referred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, but died on the way.
On Monday, their seven-month-old cousin Kainat Bibi was also brought to the hospital with high fever. She was referred to Combined Military Hospital in Abbottabad, where she is under treatment.

Young woman loses life to dengue fever

Friday, November 30, 2012 - Karachi?A twenty year old lady lost her life to dengue hemorrhagic fever in the city, bringing the total number of these deaths to two this year, said a senior official of Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell. Talking to APP Thursday, he said six cases of dengue haemorrhagia fever were confirmed during last two days, consequent to relevant laboratory tests,

?Three of these cases pertain to Karachi, two to Hyderabad and one to Sukkur,? he said. About the young life that was lost, he said the patient was a young woman from Kharadar (Karachi), admitted to a private hospital on November 27 and passed away on November 28.

In reply to a question he said another woman had lost her life to dengue hemorrhagic fever on August 31 this year.

Eleven-year-old Samandar Khan has died at the Aga Khan Hospital due to dengue hemorrhagic fever, taking the dengue fever toll to three in the current season, Provincial Dengue Surveillance Cell officials said on Friday.

Earlier, 20-year old Farzana, resident of Kharadar, had expired at a local hospital on November 28, while 78-year old Najam-un-Nisa had died due to dengue hemorrhagic fever in the city on September 5.

Two more die of dengue

KARACHI, Dec 7: The Sindh health department confirmed on Friday two more deaths caused by the dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Both victims were 11-year-old boys and died at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) earlier this week.

According to a source in AKUH, one of the boys had been admitted to the hospital on Nov 22 and died on Dec 4.

The focal person of the dengue surveillance cell, Dr Shakil A. Mullick, said that deceased was a resident of the Patel Para area.

Speaking about the second victim, the AKUH source said that he was a resident of Bilal Colony in Korangi and had been brought to the hospital?s emergency on Dec 4. He died a day later on Dec 5.

With the addition of two latest fatalities, the total number of deaths caused by dengue this year has risen to four. All the deaths were reported from AKUH.
