According to the data of the Chief Veterinary Inspection, 403 outbreaks of avian influenza were identified in Poland in 2021. At the beginning of 2021, the H5N8 virus was raging on farms, the latest outbreaks - since November 2021, it has been caused by the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus. Last year, poultry farmers breathed a sigh of relief for only three months, because there were no outbreaks only from August to November. Nobody had the time to be pleased with the regaining of the status of a country free from avian influenza even for a moment, because shortly after the decision, in November, the news of another wave of disease outbreaks on farms broke. The virus, experts and veterinarians emphasized, was still present in the wild in wild birds. With the beginning of the autumn migrations, the virus spread throughout the country. And the effect is tragic. In the last days of December 2021, breeders also had no peace in their herds, four more outbreaks were designated, closing the year with 403 outbreaks.

The H5N1 virus attacked farms in the south of the province. The main task is to avoid the transmission of the disease to humans, as well as its mutation. Therefore, for this purpose, sick herds are eliminated and the principle of biosecurity is strictly applied.
All species of birds are susceptible to infection with this deadly virus - from wild and free-living to farmed birds.
Sanepid appeals to all poultry farmers in the Ostrzeszów region to exercise extreme caution, limit contact between wild birds and poultry to a minimum, use protective clothing on the farm, protect feed against access to wild animals and not to feed poultry outside the building where poultry is kept .

An outbreak of HPAI No. 2022/1 6 was found on January 8 on a commercial farm where 9,225 breeding ducks were kept . It is located in the town of Bieczyny in the Czempiń Commune in Kościan County in the Province of Greater Poland .

On farms with an outbreak of HPAI, the Veterinary Inspection implements all disease control measures in accordance with the procedures and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687, including killing and utilization of animals, cleaning and disinfection in the focus of the disease, designation of infected and endangered areas.
The Veterinary Inspection also confirmed another 3 HPAI outbreaks in wild birds . They were all caused by the AI H5N1 virus subtype
HPAI outbreak No. 1 6 was found on January 2 , 7 in the province. Kujawsko-Pomorskie in the commune of Kamień Krajeński in the poviat of Sępoleński m the mute swan .
HPAI outbreak No. 1 7 was found on January 2 on January 8 in the province. Pomeranian Voivodeship in the Władysławowo commune in the Puck poviat in 6 mute swans .

The 20th outbreak of bird flu this year was marked yesterday (02/14/2022) in the province in the town of Chlewo in the Sieradz poviat. 18,050 ducks for slaughter were kept on the farm. The avian influenza did not give the inhabitants of the Sieradz district too much peace, because only recently the warning boards were removed. Avian influenza attacked farms and attacked as early as November 2021. The ordinance on the designation of the threatened and infected area has not yet appeared in the Official Journal of the Lodzkie Voivodship.
