Swine flu claimed the life of 26-year-old man at Christian Medical College and Hospital on Sunday night. District epidemiologist Dr Anil Verma said the patient was undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past one week, and had been put on ventilator support. Swine flu case in Patiala

PATIALA: A fresh case of Swine Flu was reported from Punjab's Patiala district on Sunday.

The 50-year-old patient from Sanaur town in Patiala district had returned home from Bombay last week and was admitted to hospital with symptoms of swine flu on Friday.

According to a doctor, the patient developed severe respiratory distress by Saturday and was required to be put on ventilator. There was no separate ventilator available for such patients in Patiala and he had to be shifted to PGIMER, Chandigarh. Doctors have found him clinically positive for H1N1. His laboratory test results will be out on Monday.

No ventilator for swine flu patients in state's largest hospital

PATIALA: Despite the tall claims by state government about augmenting the healthcare apparatus in the state, the largest government hospital in the state has failed to spare even a single ventilator for a "clinically positive" swine flu patient, following which, relatives of the patient had to rush him to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

Sources said the 50-year-old patient, a resident of Sanaur town of the district, who had returned from Mumbai last week, was admitted to the 1,000-bed Rajindra Hospital with symptoms of swine flu on Friday.

However, the patient developed severe respiratory distress by the next evening and was required to be put on ventilator, a doctor said.
