Even as the health authorities are trying to put their act together to combat the deadly diseases spreading its tentacles in the state, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Health) Ram Kishan Fouji came out with a rather innocuous explanation claiming that 18 of the 23, who died due to swine flu were also suffering from other ailments.

The remarks by the CPS are a part of the strategy by the Hooda government to bring down the swine flu death figures, which had brought a lot of embarrassment at the national level, sources said.

After a resident of Jhullar village in Barnala district died of swine flu, the health department has taken precautionary measures to stop further outbreak of the deadly virus.
Nachhatar Singh died at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh on Friday evening.
The family admitted him to a Barnala hospital from where he was shifted to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Later, he was referred to the PGI.

A 40-year-old woman died of swine flu at Vella Teja village under Fatehgarh Churrian early on Sunday morning. The deceased, Jaspal Kaur, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar for the past four days.
Confirming the swine flu as the cause of death of Jaspal Kaur,


Gurdaspur civil surgeon Dr Vinod Berri said that the swab samples of the victim were found positive for H1N1 virus at PGI, Chandigarh. She was under treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar.

Ferozepur, February 10, 2013: One ?dera premi? of Ferozepur City died due to swine flu on Sunday morning during treatment at Ludhiana hospital.
Surinder Kumar and Dera Premi Amarjit Singh, retired police inspector said, one active member of Dera Premi Committee, Daulat Ram, 48 years, resident of Bedi Colony, Ferozepur City had a fever few days back and was under treatment of local doctor and when he did not get relief, he was referred to Ludhiana where he died during treatment on Sunday morning at about 3 AM.

Swine flu claims woman's life (Punjab)
Swine flu claimed the life of another person on Monday.
The 45-year-old woman belonged to Ludhiana and was undergoing treatment at Christian MedicalCollege and
Hospital(CMCH), Ludhiana. She was admitted to the hospital around 10 days ago. With the woman's demise,
the toll ofswine flu deaths this year has reached 12. Six of the deceased were from Ludhiana.
