Kandy General Hospital staff hit by dengue

Seventy eight members of the Kandy General Hospital staff have contracted dengue hemorrhagic fever, hospital director Dr. Saman Ratnayake said.

They are among 460 dengue patients warded at the hospital, he said.

The hospital director disclosed these figures at a meeting of the Committee on Dengue Control held at the Kandy Kachcheri yesterday...

Sri Lanka Records Rise In Dengue Patients
Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health on Thursday launched a lightning dengue eradication program as the number of dengue patients rose to over 18,000 with 24 people reported dead.

According to the Ministry of Health, the army, police and health officials will be deployed from Thursday to take action against dengue breeding grounds.

Measures will be taken to eliminate dengue mosquito breeding grounds and file legal action against the owners of property where dengue mosquito breeding grounds are found.

The Ministry of Health said that 18,735 patients have contracted dengue around the country so far this year while 24 people have died.

Over 30 dengue deaths, 20,000 cases to date

More than 20,000 dengue cases have been reported from all over the country for the past six months claiming 31 lives, the dengue Eradication Programme of the Health Ministry said today.

A statement issued by the Health Ministry said out of the 20,731 cases reported so far 47.61 cases had been reported from the Western Province.

Reports reaching us conform that 40 deaths have been occurred during the past six months due to dengue epidemic. During the period 22,799 people are affected by dengue.
7369 dengue patients have been identified from the Colombo district. The amounts of deaths and victims have been identified at a time when anti dengue campaigns are on the way, reported through the media and while an anti dengue presidential task force is implemented.

State sites are main breeding grounds


State institutions in the Western Province have turned out to be the main breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes, claiming 44 lives and making 25, 365 ill during the past seven months. Railway yards and reservations, railway quarters, government housing complexes, old state buildings, prisons, ports and bare land belonging to state institutions have been identified as having the highest mosquito density, according to health authorities. Illegal construction in government flats in the Colombo district is a menace with most of the Colombo dengue cases being reported from these quarters. National dengue cases have gone up 30 per cent from 2014 Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said.

A total of 30,041 dengue patients and 50 deaths were reported during this year from the all parts of the country by the end of last week.

A National Mosquito Eradication programme will take place on August 11, 12 and 13, targeting the North East monsoonal rains, Health Ministry sources said.

they said the highest number of dengue patients - 9,696 were reported from the Colombo district. The second highest number - 2,649 was reported from Gampaha district. A total of 2,229 dengue patients were reported from CMC.

Dengue deaths top 50, over 34,000 patients by mid-August

A total of 34,773 dengue patients and over 50 deaths have been reported up to mid-August while a national mosquito eradication programme took place on August 11, 12 and 13 in the Western Province, Health Ministry sources said.

The sources said the highest number of dengue patients amounting to 11,214 had been reported from the Colombo district.
