It could but I do not believe so. I believe the 1918 virus was able to survive and thrive in the summer months was because of its ability to easily mutate and adapt to its enviroment.
Modern communications may take care of that problem.
It will be interesting to see if this will knock current seasonal H3N2 out of existance.
The WHO work in Mexico should paint a good picture.
