لقى المواطن عمرو المغازى (30سنة) مصرعه مساء أمس بمستشفى الصدر بالزقازيق، متأثراً بإصابته بفيروس أنفلونزا الطيور. At the citizen Amr Maghazi (30 years) was killed yesterday evening, al-Sadr hospital in Zagazig wounds sustained bird flu virus.

Could this be the same case as #113 below (also 30 years old, but a different governate possibly and opposite gender)? Or is this #114?

According latest FAO/Empres release, the case no. 113 (d. 12/05/10) was from Beheira (http://empres-i.fao.org/empres-i/2/obd?idOutbreak=157420&rss=t ).


Moderator note: Case #113 is reported to be from Gharbia Governorate. The FAO report is probably not referring to case #113.

this looks and reads like it will be case number 114 the gender and name are male and the age is 30 as translated.

the article states five suspect cases,but then in arabic it mentions that the two from the same location have the virus.

the article also indicates the other five people all live in four different locations! (two live in a single location)

It appears all 5 are contacts of the patient. Testing the contacts is standard procedure.

The FAO link below indicates 76,000 chickens were culled in this governorate about two weeks ago.

I'm assuming this information was verified due to the large numbers involved.I could not locate any other information on the subject.

The article above mentions the exact village in the FAO report (Talkha City) the article in post number one indicates two people from this village are infected with the virus.

Suspected 114th human case, 38th fatality

A 30-year-old man, a resident of Dakahlia governorate died as a
consequence of suspected bird flu [influenza A/(H5N1) virus
infection] yesterday evening [6 Dec 2010], in the al-Sadr hospital in
Zagazig. He was one of 5 suspected cases under treatment.

[This suspected case, if officially confirmed, will become the 114th
(24th in 2010) human case of avian A/(H5N1) virus infection recorded
in Egypt since the 1st human case in 2006. The victim will be the
12th fatality in 2010 (38th overall). For convenience FluTrackers

the name listed above does not show up in any of the other articles that i have read and were published by the media or mohp over the last couple of days which relate to H1N1 infections in the same governorate.

لقى المواطن عمرو المغازى (30سنة) مصرعه مساء أمس بمستشفى الصدر بالزقازيق، متأثراً بإصابته بفيروس أنفلونزا الطيور.

كان المغازى من مركز ميت غمر دقهلية، قد تم احتجازه فور ظهور أعراض المرض عليه. كما تم احتجاز 5 حالات يشتبه فى إصابتهم بمرض أنفلونزا الطيور داخل مستشفيات الدقهلية بعد ظهور أعرض الفيروس عليهم، حيث تم احتجاز حالتين مصابة بالفيروس من مدينة طلخا، بالإضافة إلى حالة بمستشفى بلقاس وأخرى بحميات بالمنصورة وحالة من قرية شبراهور. وتم أخذ عينات من الحالات المصابة بالفيروس بمسحات من الحلق، وإرسالها إلى المعامل المركزية للتأكد من إصابتها الفيروس من عدمه.

من جهته، أشار اللواء سمير سلام، محافظ الدقهلية، إلى ضرورة توفر كل الأمصال والعلاج المناسب والاستعدادات الكاملة لمواجهة أى حالة تظهر بالمحافظة. وصرح محمد أيمن رجب، وكيل وزارة الصحة بالدقهلية، أنه يجب أن نأخذ حذراً بالتعامل مع الطيور والاحتياطات اللازمة والوقاية خير من العلاج.

There has been no further information about this case and today the Minister of Health says this:

"...With regard to bird flu, he pointed out the mountain that Egypt detected 113 cases of the disease since 2006, and 37 deaths.."

We will be leaving this case on our list as #114. The description of the case, the fact that this person has not appeared on any list for A/H1N1 confirmed cases, and the warning about exposure to poultry are the reasons:

"..For his part, said Maj. Gen. Samir peace, Dakahlia governor, to the need to provide all the vaccines and appropriate treatment and full preparations to cope with any situation appears in the governorate.

Said Ayman Mohamed Ragab, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Dakahlia, that we must take careful in dealing with birds and necessary precautions, and prevention is better than cure."
